The European Movement in London is the branch of the European Movement covering the whole of the capital.

Forthcoming event

Dinner with your MEP - Friday 17 September Ms Marina Yannakoudakis MEP

The European Movement in London is inviting London MEPs to speak to our members over dinner about their work in the European Parliament. The first dinner is on Friday 17th September with Conservative MEP Marina Yannakoudakis, who will be talking about her work in the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety and the Committee on Women's rights and Gender Equality.

This event will take place at Bertorelli Restaurant (19 Charlotte street, W1T 1RL, click here for a map) and it will start at 19.30 with a dinner to be followed by Ms Yannakoudakis speech. Please arrive by 19.15.

There are only 20 places available so register early to avoid disappointment. Tickets cost £25, for which participants will get 2 courses and a glass of wine. Please find attached the menu, you can chose a main course and either a starter or a dessert.

To register please e-mail your menu choices (including whether you prefer white or red wine) to info(at)em-il.org.uk by Friday 3 September.

Past events

  • The European Movement in London and the Premier League jointly organised an event entitled 'Playing the Game Across Borders - The EU and British Sport'. The event took place at The Hospital Club, 24 Endell Street, Covent Garden, WC2H 9HQ and it was followed by a Reception and Screening of England vs. Algeria. The event, which discussed how EU rules on the free movement of labour have benefited British sport in general and football in particular, featured speeches from:

             - Pedro Velazquez, Deputy Head of Sport Unit, European Commission

             - James MacDougall, EU and International Officer, CCPR

             - Alexandre Husting, University of Brussels

  • The European Movement in London held its Annual General Meeting on Monday 14 June 2010. The AGM took place at the European Commission Representation in the UK (8 Storey's Gate, London SW1P 3AT).   • The European Movement in London (EMiL) held on 15 April 2010 an event, hosted and supported by Clifford Chance, with Sharon Bowles MEP on 'The Proposed EU Financial Supervision Architecture: The view from the European Parliament'. Sharon Bowles chairs the Parliament's Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee (ECON) which is currently negotiating key dossiers including the Directive on Alternative Investment Fund Managers and the Financial Supervisory Package. The event was held at the Clifford Chance tower at Canary Wharf. Click here for the List of Attendees.
  • The European Movement in London, in association with the Danish Embassy in London, organised on 11 February 2010 an event on the Post-Copenhagen Climate Change Negotiations. The event was held at the Danish Ambassador's residence and featured speeches by H.E Ambassador Birger Riis-Jorgensen and Professor Sir Brian Hoskins CBE FRS. It was followed by a debate between participants from Whitehall, Westminster, the private sector as well as academia. Click here for the List of Attendees.
  • The European Movement in London held on 17 November 2009 an event on the Swedish Presidency of the EU. The event was hosted in the Swedish Ambassador's residence and featured a talk by Per Augustsson, Minister and Deputy Head of Mission.
  • The European Movement in London (EMiL - formerly CLEG) held on 20th April 2009 a debate on "Does Europe need a defence policy?". The event took place at the House of Lords and the speakers were: Lord Teverson (HoL EU Select Committee), Bastian Giegerich (International Institute for Strategic Studies) and Geoffrey Van Orden MEP.
  • CLEG organised a debate in Canary Wharf on Tuesday 2nd December 2008. The subject was "Finance Turmoil - is Britain moving closer to the eurozone?", with Julian Callow (Chief European Economist, Barclays Capital), Willem H. Buiter (Ch. European Political Economy, European Institute, LSE), Ian King (Deputy Business Editor of the Times) and Aine McGuire (Chair Central London Europe Group) as speakers.   • CLEG organised at the Saint Bride Institute on Tuesday 11 March 2008 a public debate on "Europe's Lisbon Treaty and you" with guest speakers Rt Hon Charles Kennedy MP, Sir Stephen Wall and Derek Scott.
